Work Begins on a New Public Preschool for Queanbeyan

Queanbeyan families can look forward to more fee-free early learning as shovels hit the ground on the new Queanbeyan South Public Preschool.

Co-located with the Queanbeyan South Public School, the new preschool will offer a high-quality play-based early learning program, support children's transition into kindergarten and schooling, as well as ease pick up and drop off for parents with older students at the same school.

"The new preschool will be a real boost for local families and will help Queanbeyan South continue to grow and thrive, strengthening the whole community, said Steve Whan, Member for Monaro.

"I'm delighted that work is now underway, and I share the community's excitement in seeing this fantastic new facility take shape over the coming months.

"This is one of 100 new public preschools the Minns Labor Government is delivering, and it shows our commitment to making high-quality early learning accessibly to every family - no matter where they live or what they earn."

In addition to state-of-the-art learning areas, each new preschool will include staff facilities, a kitchen, toilet facilities and landscaped outdoor areas.

"This public preschool development is significant for families throughout the Queanbeyan area. It will provide access the high-quality early learning programs and support young children at a crucial stage in their development" said Kelly Broomham, Principal of Queanbeyan South Public School.

"Early learning plays a vital role in setting the foundation for a child's future success and supports a smooth transition to kindergarten.

"We are very excited about being able to welcome our youngest learners, supporting the beginning of their school journey at our new public preschool."

The new public preschool will be open early 2027 and will accommodate up to 80 children per week.
